"Insanity"

I've never done an exercise program before. I haven't done anything that could be considered "exercise" in months. So why not start a ridiculous workout/diet routine? This has to be a good idea...

I caught a stomach bug that apparently has been going around, so I missed two workouts and one day of proper eating.  Small setback.  The rest of the month is going through the five workouts several times, but there's something called Cardio Abs thrown in here and there, too.  I'll post when I get to that and again when I take the 2-week fit test.

Day 12 - Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs:

For some reason, the first time I did Pure Cardio I thought it was easier than the others.  I think I was just being lazy.  The second time around, really pushing it, I felt terrible, but I guess good at the same time.  There is almost no resting during this workout.  And, to top it off, I had to do Cardio Abs right after.  There really isn't any cardio, just 10 or so on-the-floor ab grinders.  No sit-ups, though.  It really made my back hurt more than anything.  I was probably doing it all wrong.

Day 15 - Fit Test 2:

I was dreading this and looking forward to it all day.  I warmed up before the test, probably not enough, though.  Here are the numbers:

Exercise

Fit Test 1

Fit Test 2

Switch Kicks

94

100

Power Jacks

42

44

Power Knees

65

70

Power Jumps

21

24

Globe Jumps

8

9

Suicide Jumps

12

11

Push-up Jacks

17

23

Low-plank Oblique

21

44

Weight

166.0

161.8

Most importantly, I didn't throw up.  Overall, I'm pleased.  I hardly took any breaks between exercises either the second time.  The first test I had to stop and recover after every one.

yeah... the best part of repetition is mastery. You are familiar with the exercise and what you *should* be capable of, so you can push yourself to maximize the results. Of course, as soon as you master it, they change the dvd's on you!

I pushed myself on Ab ripper last night so much that i had to roll out of bed because i couldn't sit up! Such physical abuse we put ourselves through!

nice progress on the fitness test!

Four weeks down and still going strong.  And yes, having almost mastered all of the first DVD, I will now move on.  There is a recovery week with a Core Cardio and Balance workout every day.  Then it's on to the "Max" workouts.  Another fit test a week from Monday, so I'll post the results and weight afterward.

And so begins week six.  Motivation is down but I'm still pushing through.  And I will need a lot of push.  After the recovery week, I wasn't really prepared for the new, more intense workouts.  I didn't think they'd be that much different, but I was wrong.  And to top it all off, I had to take fit test three before the Max Interval Circuit.  And the results were:

Exercise

Fit Test 1

Fit Test 3

Switch Kicks

94

107

Power Jacks

42

50

Power Knees

65

70

Power Jumps

21

27

Globe Jumps

8

9

Suicide Jumps

12

13

Push-up Jacks

17

23

Low-plank Oblique

21

54

Weight

166.0

161.0

Not pleased with the lack of weight loss, but I have resumed moderate weekend drinking, so that could be a contributing factor. I think these new workouts will build more muscle and increase my metabolism, so I'm confident.  I'll be weighing myself more frequently this month.

The second workout of the new DVD is Max Interval Plyo.  Very similar to Max Interval Circuit, just with different moves.  "Do as many of these in 45 seconds as you can," seems to be the theme.  Almost none of the moves in these two were on the first DVD.  A ton of push-ups of different variations in the Max Plyo.  I couldn't make it up by the end.

By the way, I decided to weigh myself before and after these workouts.  Yesterday I was 161.0 before and 160.0 after, in shorts, socks and t-shirt.  Today I was 159.8 before and 158.8 after.  That's a pound of sweat, and I trust my scale.  I thought I was sweating pretty profusely, which is why I decided to do the pre and post weights, and I was right.

wow! 16oz of sweat. Their slogan "Melt fat like butter" sounds surprisingly appropriate.

As I learned last night, Plyo sucks if you've been drinking before!
